Deputy Prime Minister, Turkey
Mr. Besir Atalay was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister in the 61st Cabinet after the election in 2011. e was elected to the Parliament as an MP from Ankara for Justice and Development Party in 2002 and held positions in the Cabinet as Minister of State and Minister of Interior Affairs. In 1998 he also founded Ankara Social Research Center where he acted as a coordinator for five years. He was the founding rector of Kirikkale University, where he worked for five years until his retirement in 1997. He served as the Head of Social Planning Department in the State Planning Organization between 1985 and 1992. He was a visiting scholar at Michigan University between 1978–1979. Mr. Besir Atalay, born in 1947 in Keskin-Ankara, received his Ph.D. in sociology from Erzurum Atatürk University after he graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1970.
