How can I register to attend the conference?What is the cost of registration?

Participation is possible upon personal invitation only. The invitation was sent out by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs. The registration is free of charge. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so as soon as possible. Otherwise, a participation at the conference cannot be guaranteed.

How do I register as media to report on the conference?

Media accreditation and registration will be available through the Media Centre page of the conference website. Media registration also requires the creation of an online “profile” prior to registering. As space will be limited, accreditation will only be granted to journalists who submit completed applications, with all supporting documentation, including verification of media credentials. The online registration system will prompt you to upload the supporting documentation to support your request for accreditation.

Which supporting documents are required, exactly?

All media personnel will need a recent photograph and a valid press ID card. Alternatively, you can also prove your press ID with an accreditation from your company.

Why must I submit supporting documentation with my media registration?

The supporting documents you submit with your application for media accreditation are used to prove that you are a journalist and therefore eligible to attend the conference free of charge. Unfortunately, this process is necessary, as we have received many fraudulent applications in the past.

May I submit supporting documentation for my media registration in languages other than English or German?

No, you have to register in English.

Do I need a visa to enter Austria?

All delegates traveling to Austria must present a passport (or approved identity card for EU citizens) and many countries require a visa to enter the country. Delegates are encouraged to apply for visas early (at least two months before departure), and to ensure all requested documentation is submitted with the application. Applications must be submitted in person at the Austrian representation in the respective countries or at a Schengen partner representation, if Austria does not have representation in that country. Delegates are urged to contact their nearest Austrian embassy or consulate as early as possible to determine where your application should be made and how long this process will take.

Where does the conference take place?

The conference takes place at the Hofburg Vienna, Heldenplatz, 1010 Vienna, Austria. The Hofburg is located in the centre of the Old Town and can easily be reached with public transport. Two underground stations, and bus and tram stops are within walking distance.

How far away is the airport?

A taxi from Vienna International Airport takes on average 20 minutes. The CAT City Airport Train will take you to Wien Mitte station in 16 minutes; from there, the Hofburg can be reached by underground in five minutes.

Are there any car parks close to the Hofburg?

How can I book accommodation in Vienna?

To ensure all our delegates have accommodation for the duration of the conference, we have pre-blocked a lot of the available accommodation in Vienna. The fact that we have booked so many rooms has also allowed us to negotiate preferential rates as well as good terms and conditions with the hotels. The reservation will only be blocked until 31 January, 2013.

Hotels from every category, with a total of 7,500 beds can be found right next to the Hofburg.

What are the prices of the hotels?

Hotel rooms range in price from EUR 90 per night for a single room in a three star hotel to EUR 300 per night for a room in a five star hotel. Who are the conference-organizers and partnering institutions?

The conference is organized by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations together with the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in partnership with a number of international bodies and local partners, a list of whom you can find here.

Which were the previous conferences? 

The Global Forum of the UNAOC were already held in: Madrid 2008, Istanbul 2009, Rio de Janeiro 2010, Doha 2011.

Will there be a conference evaluation?

What languages will be used at the conference?

The official language of the conference is English, however most sessions will be interpreted into German, French and Arabic as well. Many of the conference printed materials (General Information brochure, signage, press kits etc) and the conference website will be in English only.

Can I participate at the cultural event on the evening of 26 February, 2013 at the Volkstheater?

Yes, all registered participants are invited to the cultural event at the Volkstheater. However, please note at the registration if you intend to attend the cultural event.

Can photos be taken during the event and can these be passed on to third parties?

No, only official accredited photographers are allowed to take pictures at the event. All photos can be downloaded from the official website.

Is the Hofburg Congress Center wheelchair accessible?

Yes, all of the main event rooms can be reached by elevator.

Is smoking allowed in the rooms at the Hofburg?

Smoking bans under the Tabakgesetz (Tobacco Act) as amended must always be observed. Smoking on Hofburg Vienna premises is strictly prohibited, except in designated smoking areas. The operator accepts liability neither for infringements of any smoking bans, nor for damages incurred or injury suffered by the Contractual Partner or third parties due to smoking.
